CELEBRATING THE SACRAMENTS AT ST. THERESE
Infants and children under the age of six are welcomed to the Sacrament of Baptism provided that at least one parent is committed to be a practicing Catholic and to raise her/his children as a Catholic. Baptisms are celebrated at St. Therese during Mass when possible, since this is preferred by the Church; however, exceptions are sometimes made for private celebrations of this Sacrament. Baptisms are not celebrated during Lent except in emergencies.
Parents meet first with the priest, deacon or pastoral associate to discuss the meaning of Baptism and to agree on a date and time for the celebration. Appointments are made by contacting the parish office. It is appropriate to begin the process before the child has been born but parents are welcome to inquire at any time. Children age six and above are prepared for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Children which includes Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. Arrangements for this process may be made with the pastor or pastoral associate.
Adults are welcomed into the Catholic Church through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. The first step in this process is to have a conversation with the pastor or pastoral associate. Persons who have been baptized already in another Christian tradition are not re-baptized but are received into the Catholic Church with the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist after making a Profession of Faith.
The normal age for reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Diocese of Raleigh is while a young person is in the 10th grade. A two year period of preparation is required. This process begins with registering in our Faith Formation Program. For further information contact our Faith Formation Coordinator.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated on Saturdays from 4:30pm until 5:30pm in the Reconciliation Room located in St. Therese Church. Communal celebrations are scheduled at St. Therese and other area parishes during the seasons of Advent and Lent. Our pastor is available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation by appointment: contact the church office or the pastor to schedule. Children are prepared to celebrate Reconciliation as part of their preparation for First Holy Communion.
Masses are celebrated at St. Therese daily when possible. See our weekly schedule on the Parish Home Page.
Eucharistic Ministers and our pastor bring Holy Communion to the sick and homebound. Please contact the church office to schedule a convenient time.
The normal age for First Holy Communion in the Diocese of Raleigh is during 2nd grade. Preparation is offered in our Faith Formation Program. Contact our Children's Ministry Coordinator for details.
Our church is open on weekdays from 8am until 5pm for prayer.
Anointing of the Sick
Persons who are concerned about their health are encouraged to celebrate the Sacrament of Anointing. Please contact the parish office if you are ill, preparing for surgery, homebound or hospitalized to receive this Sacrament of healing and peace.
Couples wishing to celebrate their wedding at St. Therese should contact the parish office or our pastor at least six months prior to their wedding. This time is needed for the required Marriage Preparation, to complete the necessary papers, and to schedule and plan a wedding ceremony.
